Kim Nguyen just closed the Rotterdam International Film Festival with his modern epic The Hummingbird Project, in which he exposes the ruthless edge of our increasingly digital world. Cousins from New York, Vincent (Eisenberg) and Anton (Skarsgård) are players in the high-stakes game of High Frequency Trading, where winning is measured in milliseconds. Their dream? To build a fiber-optic cable straight line between Kansas and New Jersey, making them millions. But nothing is straightforward for this flawed pair. Anton is the brains, Vincent is the hustler, and together they push each other and everyone around them to breaking point on their quixotic adventure.

For the creation of the film's original score, Belgian composer Yves Gourmeur and score production company General Score got involved at an early stage of the project: the first tracks were written based on the script and then further developed thanks to 'work-in-progress' footage and edits.

Composer Yves Gourmeur about the scoring process:
"This approach was successful since several pieces composed based on the script were maintained for the film. This way, the color and the atmosphere of the music were little by little imposed onto the mock-ups.
Kim's wish was to obtain an elegant score, which gives a particular point of view to the characters and the narration. His proficient feedback to the music I sent, as well as my collaboration with General Score, and in particular with music supervisor Arnaud Blanpain, allowed me to let the music evolve and mature in optimal conditions.
Collaborating with Kim has been fantastic: beyond his great skills as a director and his ability to express himself about the emotions he wants to feel in music, he is also very motivating because of his positive nature.”

Director Kim Nguyen about the collaboration with Yves Gourmeur:
"Yves has done a very demanding job and frankly, his music turned out to be one of my favorite soundtracks written for my films. The music fits the film so well giving it elegance and something refined. A unique angle! "

The OST album will be available from March 15th via Atlantic Screen Music.

Full of his great experience as a musician and orchestrator, Yves Gourmeur begins his “second life” admirably with the film d’auteur’s soundtrack The Hummingbird Project. His amazing work on this project just got him nominated for the Canadian Screen Awards 2019, the winner will be announced on March 31st in Toronto.
